IS MANAGER AN EASY JOB?

For people climbing the corporate ladder, manager will most likely be one of your milestone in the process.

What is the responsibilities of a manager?

Below is my views:

  • Responsibility to company – to generate profit for the company. You maybe from support team, sales team or administrative team, creating profit is your one of your core responsibilities. Some manager only focus ensuring their operation are running smooth which don’t give the manager much value to company.
  • Responsibility to subordinates –  A team is only effective when everyone in the team work effectively. To work effectively, manager not only needs to concerns subordinates work welfare, he should also consider off-work welfare like their family issue.
  • Responsibility to other department – Another main concerns is that manager only runs the team. He forget that the company have other teams. Having one super team will not create a superb company. But having a unite normal teams will create a superb company.

Responsibility for manager is not uni-direction but multi-direction: Top (Company), Bottom (Staff), Left/Right (cross-department)

This probably don't really apply to me... Other than managing my own things and across departments and other teams, I still have to manage the 3 people on top of me who are just ranking one above the other.....
