DELEGATION

“Delegation” – to transfer, entrust, assign to another people.

This word sound easy yet difficult to be implemented. And often abused.

Below is some pointers to highlight:

  • Ownership still remain with the person who delegates, often by the management. Many times, manager delegates a task but does not track the progress nor asked. And worst of all, when problem arises the manager pushes all blame the person he was delegated to.
  • Delegation involves assessment. Before you delegate to a person the manager must assess the abilities (not his designation). Different people, the manager needs to handle the person accordingly. A more capable person, the manager will probably needs less attention. A less capable person, the manager needs to provide more attention and guidance.
  • Delegate and unload. Not only passing the task, the manager needs to remove the current tasks from the person if he is too loaded.

Lastly, I wish you have a superior that is expert in delegation.
