When economy crisis is here, these loyal staffs got retrenched because after they work for so many years their salary is higher.

Many argued, why doesn’t the years of effort, hardwork and loyalty for so many years worth anything?

The fact is effort, hardwork or loyalty worth little to business, it is the value that you bring to the company that is worth. Companies are setup to make money. If your work worth $2000 and company is paying $4000. Then the company is making a lost by employing you. 

For employee who have work long enough and has many increment, re-consider your worth to the company. Since you started with basic pay of $1000 and increment to $2000 over the years, has your value to the company increase as much? If not, it is time to change now to increase your value, otherwise be ready to accept the outcome in the time to come.
