A need is something that you requires to move on. For example, you will need a financial calculator in order to attend your accounts lessons and pass your exams.

Does that means you should not buy anything which is considered a "WANT"?
Of course not, you can pamper yourself once a while by buying a "want". It is not a crime to pamper yourself. Everyone need to rest sometime, so after a long year of hardwork, pampering yourself is actually healthy.

Does that means that for a "NEED", you need not re-consider, just buy?
Of course not, because to fulfill a need there are a lot of methods of doing so. You should choose the best method. Using the example above (finanical calculator), the fastest methods is buy a new calculator. However, many people only use it 1-2 years, after they completed their course, the calculator was left to rot. So you can actually borrow and purchased used calculator.
